Which Airport?

There are two major airports in the Netherlands, close to Delft and Rotterdam, with regular flights to/from other major airports:

  • Amsterdam Airport Schiphol
  • Rotterdam The Hague Airport

Participants travelling from Belgium and France may also travel by train (e.g., the Eurostar non-stop train is a good, more sustainable option).

How to get to Delft from the airport?

Both airports are well connected by train to Delft central station. “NS” is primarily responsible for providing the public transport facilities in the Netherlands.

  • From the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol , catch one of the NS trains which takes approx. 45mins-1 hour to reach Delft.
  • From the Rotterdam The Hague Airport, it takes about 35-50 minutes via NS Train+Bus.
  • Alternatively, airport taxis and Ubers are also available at the Arrivals terminals but keep in mind that it is better to reserve it two-way (e.g. https://taxidelft.nl/ ).

How to move around Delft or nearby cities?

Public transportation is an efficient and reliable means of travel in the Netherlands. There are regular buses, trams, and trains running within Delft as well as connecting Delft to nearby cities, including the Hague, Rotterdam, etc. You can download the 9292.nl app for planning your journeys using public transport.

Alternatively, you can buy an anonymous OV-chipkaart (travel card) from the airport or sales devices in stations, load it with credit, and use it immediately. You may see the different ways to pay for public transport on the following webpage. It may be possible to pay directly by credit/debit card.

Apart from that, cycling is the easiest way to explore the cities of the Netherlands, thanks to its extensive bicycle-friendly infrastructure. There are a few companies that provide e-bike rental services in Delft, such as GO-sharing and Bondi.
