Conference venue

Villa Mondragone

Nestled in the evocative landscape of the Tuscolan Villas, with a view overlooking the imposing skyline of Rome, stands Villa Mondragone. This fascinating architectural complex, witness to numerous significant historical events, is distinguished by its unique structure, composed of various buildings constructed in different periods. Cardinal Ugo Boncompagni, who later became Pope Gregory XIII, regularly used the villa as his residence. It was here, in 1582, that he issued the papal bull Inter gravissimas, which marked the beginning of the calendar reform still in use today. After countless events, changes in ownership, and shifts in function, Villa Mondragone became the property of the University of Rome Tor Vergata in 1981. Since then, the university has launched an important restoration program to preserve its historical integrity and enhance its artistic and architectural heritage.

Accessibility

Villa Mondragone is located just outside Rome, officially in the municipality of Monte Porzio Catone but walking-distance from the centre of the lively city of Frascati, a famous wine city in Italy. Although several accommodation options are offered in Frascati, the venue could be reached from the centre of Rome within 30 to 60 minutes.

By foot: We suggest to find accomodation in the city of Frascati. From the city center of Frascati the conference venue can be reached with a pleasant 20 to 30 minute walk (less than 2km), partly in the enjoyable gardens of the historic villa. A bus service from the gate of the park to the main building will be provided. Staying in the city center of Frascati allows also to reach the center of Rome in 30 minutes by direct train.

By car: Follow the A1 motorway in the direction toward Naples and take the exit Monte Porzio Catone. Since Villa Mondragone is a historic palace, local directions to reach the venue are provided by brown road signs. Free-of-charge parking is available at the Villa.

By train: From Termini Station, which is the main train station in Rome, take the regional train to Frascati. Travel time is approximately 30 minutes and the service consists of hourly trains. From the train station of Frascati one could  then take a taxi or simply take a pleasant stroll to the conference venue. A bus service from the gate of the park to the main building will be provided.

By plane: From Fiumicino Airport (FCO), take the train («Leonardo express») to Termini Station (travel time approx. 30 min), then  follow the instruction by train. From Ciampino Airport (CIA), take a taxi (approx. 25  min) or local bus to CIA train station and take train to Frascati.

The conference venue is just few hundreds meters from the city center of Frascati, while the center of Rome can be reached in approximately 30 minutes via a direct train, running hourly.
