Submission
SAFEPROCESS 2027 will accept regular papers, possibly via invited session proposals, and contributions via panel discussion proposals. In addition to these, SAFEPROCESS 2027 will include a “Dissemination papers” track, i.e., extended abstracts of recent publications in IFAC Journals related to SAFEPROCESS topics. Tutorial proposals are also encouraged. Papers and proposals must be submitted electronically using the IFAC Papercept Conference Manuscript Management System (www.ifac.papercept.net).
Accepted regular and invited session papers presented at SAFEPROCESS 2027 will be published in the proceedings of the event using the open-access IFAC-PapersOnLine series hosted on ScienceDirect. The author(s) must grant exclusive publishing rights to IFAC under a Creative Commons license when they submit the final version of the paper. The copyright belongs to the authors, who have the right to share the paper in the same terms allowed by the end-user license, and retain all patent, trademark and other intellectual property rights (including research data).

Contribution Categories
Regular and Invited Session Papers
Regular and invited session papers will be selected on the originality, technical soundness, quality of written exposition and relevance to SAFEPROCESS topics. Initial submissions are at least 4 pages long and at most 8 pages long, with a strict 6 pages limit for final manuscripts to be included in the IFAC-PapersOnLine proceedings. The accepted papers will be presented in oral sessions during the conference either as 20-minute oral presentations or in poster sessions.
Invited Session Proposals
Invited sessions aim to present new research results within the scope of SAFEPROCESS 2027, bringing together experts in the field to elaborate on various aspects and challenges of specific, timely topics.
The proposals for invited sessions should include: 1) a title, 2) the name and affiliation of the organizer(s), 3) a summary describing the motivation and relevance of the proposed session to SAFEPROCESS 2027, 4) a list of at least 4 contributed papers, including a tentative title and abstract. Upon submission of the invited session proposal, the session organizer will receive a session code, which should be communicated to the authors of the invited papers for the submission of their contributions.
Panel Discussion Proposals
Panel discussions are designated for bringing forward specific topics within the scope of SAFEPROCESS, especially for participants from the industry, as well as government and education sectors. They may also be an opportunity to discuss ongoing research. Panel discussions should be interactive and aim to reveal open issues, adoption challenges, societal impact, multi-disciplinary aspects, business models among others in the context of SAFEPROCESS 2027.
The proposals for panel discussions should include: 1) a title, 2) the name and affiliation of the organizer(s), 3) a short description of the discussion topic(s) highlighting the relevance to SAFEPROCESS 2027 and possibly to the theme “AI for Safety” as well as to the expected audience, 4) a list of at least 2 panelists, including a short bio, a webpage link (optional), 5) the estimated duration, 6) the structure of the panel discussion, emphasizing the way to stimulate interaction via curated Q&A possibly with software tools for audience engagement.
Panel discussion contributions will NOT be included in the IFAC-PapersOnLine proceedings, but it will appear in the IFAC app.
Abstracts of Dissemination Paper
This category provides opportunities to authors whose papers have been recently accepted by IFAC Journals to showcase their results to a broader audience at an IFAC Conference.
Submissions shall provide an extended abstract of the journal paper, including: 1) the IFAC journal title, and url to the published paper, 2) an abstract of maximum 1 page of the research work, including the main contributions and results as well as a description about the relevance to SAFEPROCESS 2027. If the journal paper is accepted but not published online by the deadline 28/02/2027, a copy of the journal acceptance letter should be included with the abstract.
Dissemination Papers will be presented in oral sessions. The titles and abstracts will be included in the preprints, but they will NOT be included in the IFAC-PapersOnLine proceedings.
Tutorial Proposals
Tutorials aim to present a consolidated research work/method/approach/tool related to the topics of SAFEPROCESS 2027 in a pedagogical style to enhance the knowledge and skills of the participants. Simulation tools are encouraged to be utilized and/or other pedagogical methods (e.g. hands on, peer groups). Relevant material (e.g. tutorial slides, papers, software) is strongly proposed to be offered to participants.
The proposals for tutorials should include: 1) a title, 2) the name and affiliation of the organizer(s), 3) a description of the tutorial topic and a list of the learning objectives, highlighting the relevance to SAFEPROCESS 2027 and possibly to the theme “AI for Safety” as well as to the expected audience, 4) a list of speakers/teachers, including a short bio, a webpage link (optional), 5) the estimated duration, 6) a structure of the tutorial emphasizing the way to engage the participants.
Tutorials will NOT be included in the IFAC-PapersOnLine proceedings, but it will appear in the IFAC app.
Award Nomination
Three types of awards will be given in the IFAC SAFEPROCESS 2027. For every award, there will be a Selection Committees that will determine a short list of finalists, based on the gathered review reports, and the papers. Only in the case of the young author award, the assigned committee considers also the nomination forms (see below). After having attended the oral presentation given by the nominees, the committee selects the winner. Every award consists of a certificate and a prize of €1000.
IFAC Young Author Award
To encourage the involvement of young scientists and engineers in IFAC, as well as to recognize top-level contributions of the younger generation in the field, the IFAC Young Author Award will be presented at SAFEPROCESS 2027.
This award is given to the best paper of which the first and presenting author is the main contributor of the research results, and where the candidate s under 30 years old at the time of SAFEPROCESS 2027. Nominations are solicited after the notifications of acceptance/rejection have been issued and are made by colleagues of the author(s) (no self-nominations). Nominations are done using the IFAC Submission Management System using the Young Author Nomination Form II available in https://www.ifac-control.org/conferences/ifac-young-author-event-award-1/.
Paul M. Frank Best Theory Paper Award
The University of Duisburg-Essen has established this award in memory of Professor Paul M. Frank, who was one of the pioneers and great contributors to the field of fault diagnosis.
The Paul M. Frank Best Theory Paper Award will be given at SAFEPROCESS 2027 to honor the best theoretical paper presented at the conference. The oral presentation of the paper is a criterion for the award attribution.
Best Application Paper Award
To recognize outstanding contributions in the practical application of fault detection, supervision, and safety systems, the Best Application Paper Award will be presented at SAFEPROCESS 2027.
This award is given to the best paper that demonstrates a practical application of fault diagnosis in real-world environments. The paper should present innovative solutions, successful case studies, or notable advancements in the application of these techniques. A paper can be considered for this award only if one of the keywords in the category “Applications” is selected.

All manuscripts should be prepared and submitted according to IFAC requirements.
Copyright Conditions
All publication material submitted for presentation at an IFAC-sponsored meeting (Congress, Symposium, Conference, Workshop) must be original and hence cannot be already published, nor can it be under review elsewhere. The authors take responsibility for the material that has been submitted.
